Griffin on Wade

According to Magic scout Charles Klask,
in Games 1 & 2 Dallas and Griffin in particular really defended Wade well.
When Dallas defended Wade in half-court with man to man defense in Game 2:

Defender % Time Pts Allowed % Points
Griffin    40.6%     1        6.7%
Harris    33.4%     8        53.3%
Howard  26.0%     6        40.0%
Total                   15

Wade also had 5 turnovers in the game.

It seems from this graphic that Griffin harassed Wade pretty well - especially considering this was a fully healthy Wade.  I'm sure there are plenty of caveats, and obviously Game 3-6 is when Wade did his real damage.  Wade is not the only one limping; Griffin is bothered with health issues as well.  Plus, the Bulls have Hinrich and Sefolosha, both of whom have had some success (Hinrich has done this fro several years, Sefolosha one game, but I'm gonnna give Sefolosha a shot).  So I'm not advocating that Skiles give Griffin starter's minutes.  But possibly we can emulate what Dallas did: bombard him with different athletic and intelligent defenders, rotate them on Wade to give the defender a break and force Wade and the Heat to constantly adjust to different looks.  There's no way Griffin stops Wade by himself, but a four-man combo of Hinrich, Sefolosha, Griffin and Duhon (in that order; I don't want Duhon getting too many minutes this game) could wear Wade down while keeping the Bulls defenders fresh throughout the game.

I wish...
the Bulls could sub Thabo in on defense and Gordon in on offense. That would work wonderfully.

Where's the link?
I agree that Grif will help. If Wade is slowed that means the old man can do better staying in front of him...plus he's pretty good at simply sending him towards help.

Hmmm
I think that "bombarding him with different athletic and intelligent defenders" would be a good strategy for a fully healthy, kick-ass D-Wade. But I find it hard to believe that we're going to need to give him that kind of attention. If Thabo can contain the damage, and everyone else on the Heat roster can continue their suckitude, Shaq is the one who we need to focus on shutting down.

I hope Skiles agrees.

The anti-LeBron
While I mostly hate the Heat, I mostly like D-Wade, although I don't quite buy Mr. Jackson's hagiography.

You are correct, sir.
I think it's pretty funny to suggest some of the strategy that resulted in billions of Wade FTA to the team that rarely struggles to keep Wade's scoring down.

Wade still scares me
This is the link for the scout: http://www.nba.com/finals2006/analysis_miadal_g2_post.html

Wade has not been at full strength this series, he hasn't elevated as well, and his defense has been subpar.  But there have been times in both games where he's taken over.  In Game 1, the Bulls withstood the run at the end because it was too late, and in Game 2 the Bulls responded with more offense (particularly from Deng).  But Wade flashed his ability to get to the lane at will.  In Game 2, he led them on a 14-4 run, scoring 8, and continued to feed others (notably that pass to Walker).  I'm not convinced the Bulls have the ability to stop Wade at the end of any game.  When he goes on his spurts, he's dominated the Bulls.  Now there are other adjustments they can make - try to keep TT/Wallace on the floor at all times (although in Game 1, he just shot over their outstretched arms), send Deng his way for quick help, etc.  I'd definitely rather have Walker or Jones shooting at the end of a game than Wade.  But I also think they need to wear him down with different defenders and challenge him physically and mentally with different looks.  He may fly almost like Mike (pre-injury, and there's a gap there too) and show nice maturity for his age, but he's only been in the league 4 years.  I think we can wear him down with multiple defenders.  To address you more specifical tactical argument, I don't think we'll foul as much as Dallas for three reasons: Wade can't go as high, he won't get the same near-absurd calls, and Wallace, Thomas and even P.J. are much quicker and better help defenders than Diop/Dampier/Nowitzki.  That's not even considering the length and athleticism of Deng, Sefolosha and Hinrich (when they're not on Wade themselves, obviously).  I think that if Griffin can be a factor defensively, it also measn that Duhon will not be on Wade as much (and I think all on this board would support that).  Overall, we've done a good job on a hurt Wade so far.  But with Hinrich in constant foul trouble (and this in Chicago) and Sefolosha a rookie,
I think we're going to need to do more to really lock Wade and this series down.

It's not like
Wade is going to magically return to full strength this week, or even next.

We'll see Griffin
guarding Wade in Miami, although I'd rather see him bother someone like Kapono and force some turnovers.

might start kapono
just to try something new, jones has been a non-factor.

Wade dangerous, and may become more so
I agree that he has sometimes taken over games for stretches of time, and I wonder whether he will be healing up and becoming stronger with each game as the series progresses.  It's a worrisome thought, and really puts a premium on closing the Heat out early if possible.  When he's hot he really is unguardable -- with luck the next time we see this phenomenon will be next year.

Go To Guy Getting Too Gay?
The bulls need a superstar, that go to guy...everyone has said this...

During the trade deadline we could have had pau gasol in exchange for deng and some change...really pau gasol, in the paint he could have been our go to guy...
Yet we kept deng, and look at the trouble were giving miami.
Would gasol give us some much needed inside scoring when our guys couldnt get hot...yea.
Could Gasol add size and more pressure on big daddy shaq (or whatever they call him)...yea.
We actually could have easily one game one and two with gasol...but guess what, because of deng we did win games one and two...Actually this awesome high speed defense and ball movement probably wouldnt exist with pau gasol (who is considered a sub par defender, and just due to size probably cant move as quick as deng).

Then we have miami, they have two superstars, they have two go to guys, lucky bastards right? Not really... Look at that big lug shaq, hes a...big lug. His speed is so inferior compared to our bulls defense, that the second he gets the ball and puts it down for his first dribble there are already 6 hands trying to snatch that ball away, no wonder he thought the refs were helping the bulls.

Then we have d-wade, if he were healthy hed show us...really he would. Fearlessly drive at the rim take a foul and throw up a shot, hit clutch threes and shoot twenty free throws...he would make us pay...he WOULD. but he cant, because he is injured.

So what of mr kopono, mr i can shoot lights out but cant really do anything else. What about mr white chocolate who can do crazy passes that lead to crazier turnovers. What about walker who just wants to dance, what of posey who is just begging to get jailed for assault. What of 'zo, who wants to dance and beat people up while icing his old back.

Superstars suck, go-to-guys suck. Why, because without a go-to-guy, a team has got nowhere (and no one) to go. Take the wizards, they lose butler and arenas and they become the team everyone wants to face (including my high school basketball team). If kobe plays a subpar game then the lakers are almost guaranteed an automatic loss.

The bulls dont have a guy who can bail them out, and that is why they have a coach who makes sure to remind them never get in a situation where you will need to be bailed out. But they also dont carry that target, they also dont carry that risk. If hinrich, if gordon, if deng, if nocioni, if wallace, if anyone on the bulls were injured and out of the playoffs, the bulls would quickly adapt.

i think what really wowed me was that tuesday night was not the bulls best basketball, that they can actually play much better than that.
If they continue to move the ball, and at the same time limit the turnovers (im looking at you ben gordon) They will be hard to contain. Out of the five big shooters (thats gordon, deng, nocioni, hinrich, and duhon, in order i think) one guy is bound to get hot, and the rest should just be able to contribute. The points will rack up, and hopefully two games later we will prepare to move on to face detroit.

sorry for wasting your time, i cant sleep and decided to write what was on my mind.

im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.

If your best players get hurt you'll be bad
I think if Deng or Gordon was hurt it wouldn't be comforting to know that the Bulls had their 'style' to compensate.

and before paxjax does
I'll wag the finger at your comment's title. That didn't even make sense enough to be funny.

i dont know if that is completely
true. Ben gordon was in a slump earlier this year, and guys did step up. if they play the way they did on tuesday, then i think it wouldnt really matter. Though i know deng and gordon are our best scoring options, we have other guys who can hopefully bring it together and get the job done.

Also if gordon or deng got injured i think this group is the kind of players that would definetly work on getting the offense back. I think kirk can average 25+ points if he really focused on that, and duhon can hit threes, andres nocioni can  hit threes, tyrus can still be there for alleyoops...basically there are ways to make up for the loss of one of the two deng or gordon.

If both were gone (god forbid) i think we would have a hard time but still not nearly as much as say the lakers without kobe, or cleavland without lebron etc

im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.

the sig
basically i like kirk hinrich because the way he plays basketball is similar to the way i play basketball, or so i really thought when i first watched him play against the wizards in the playoffs. Ever since then i began shaping the way i play basketball more with thinking of how hinrich would play.

A friend of mine who is far better than me in basketball once commented when i asked him if i was playing hinrich like...he basically told me that i was definetly trying to play hinrich like, which would mean i was being more like duhon than anything.

This was said a year ago when duhon and hinrich played pretty much the same way, but hinrich seemed to do everything duhon did better, and it often looked like duhon would come out and try to play just like hinrich.

So in a nutshell because i want to be like the next kirk hinrich, and because im still not there yet, it looks like im doing nothing but becoming the next chris duhon who resembles hinrichs playing style but is nowhere near his skill level.

I know its cheezy, also apologies, i read what i wrote above, and was laughing, im glad i wrote that last line though.

im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.
