Sam Smith fires off on Tyrus

The headline reads:

"Rookie Thomas is spoiled, rotten"

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-070206smith,1,6169790.column?coll=cs-ho me-headlines

Looks like Paxon chose talent over character on this player. Tyrus so far this year has not shown much on the court and it looks like he has shown less off the court.

really good article by Sammy
I feel bad if Tyrus really is like that...let's hope PJ or AG or one of our other elder statesmen (hell even Pax or Skiles) knocks some sense into the kid...i want to like him, but this defentely knocks him down to my least favourite bull.

On the flip side, the article made me love thabo even more.

That's a horrible column...
I guess if you follow the quotes and everything all year, you might know what he's talking about. But I don't know.

So what about his dunk-contest comments? So he wants to go for the money. Should he have said that he wants to go to show off, so that people will be talking about his dunks for years? Oh, he should have said, "I just want to go because they asked. It's such an honor."

Well, that's the most ridiculous thing there is. NO ONE wants to go for the reason. While some may be honored to be asked, or feel lucky they were, no one is going BECAUSE of that. They are going either for the money or to show off.

He seemed almost insulted when reporters asked him about playing against Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett or Tim Duncan. He was Tyrus Thomas, after all.
What's the quote, Sam? What did he say?

As far back as the NBA draft, league officials said Thomas was abrupt and uninterested when some tried to make conversation with him. There always seemed to be some bizarre sense of entitlement with him, that anything asked of him is a burden, that the media and team and league officials are some nuisance.
Who, Sam? Who says this? From what I recall, it was pretty much a kid from a small town that was taken aback by the big lights and didn't like the media because a year before he was frickin' red-shirting.

I don't know. Maybe it's all true. But give me some quotes. Give me some evidence. This is bad reporting: even if it is a column, that's inexcusable.
