Garnett, Gasol & AD
I am sure that Paxson has not engaged in any behind the scenes negotiating but maybe he just has a feeling that the Bulls will be in an excellent position to trade for Garnett after this season.

In the meantime, I wonder if there is any chance of getting AD back for the playoffs.

We'd have to send them Hinrich

Actually
I don't see that happening unless there's another good PG acquired somehow though.

Yep.

why not KG?
Colossus, what makes you say it's unlikely that the Bulls would be able to accquire Garnett? Because he'll opt and be a free agent? Even if that happens I'd think the Bulls should and would throw everything and the kitchen sink at him. Granted, it's no guarantee but I think it's certainly possible.

Only a little thing called
KG's salary in 2007 is $22m. Let's see, the Bulls have: Hinrich $11m, Gordon $4.88m, Ty $3.5m, Du $3.25m, Deng $3.32m as the only players over $2m not counting Wallace (no trade clause) and Noc (he doesn't have a salary right now and would have to be a sign-and-trade deal).
Not having Brown and his $8m (and even Lard Ass' $2.7m) makes doing a trade for someone that makes $22m pretty fucking difficult. The least amount the Bulls can send to Minnesota (this is off the top of my head and going by the 125% +$100,000 and assuming that draft picks don't add cash value to a deal) is about $17.6m (again, that's off the top my of head).

Here you go....
Gasol ($13.71m)
Lowry (1.10)
Cardinal (5.85)
---------------
=$19.65m
Memphis gets:
Hinrich ($11.0m)
Ty (3.5)
2008 first-round pick (0)
200X second-round pick in next draft where the Bulls have more than one second-round pick (0)
---------------
=$14.5m (assuming draft picks have no cash value in a trade)
$14.5m X 1.25 = $18.125M + $100k = $18.225m (number done off the top of my head and may be slightly off)
So we'd need to send them another player to balance out the salary (or maybe just cash since it's something Memphis has been losing a lot of lately....along with games).

ESPN picked up on this too
"We made no moves. Typical," Garnett told the Minneapolis Star Tribune after Friday's shootaround.
"Thank God for opt-outs," he told the newspaper, adding that he was "not happy" another trade deadline had come and gone without a significant change to the team.
I think getting him wouldn't be so bad...
I think you do it- even if you include Hinrich or Gordon. Then work out an extension...he's from Chicago and has shown he's loyal. If the Bulls were to make a move to get him, I'd like to believe he'd re-up with them.
He's from South Carolina

He didn't live in Chicago
