I see Gasol for Wallace as a win-win for both teams. I am not oblivious to Big Ben's defensive contributions, but he duplicates the talent of Noah and TT. This trade gives Joakim and TT more minutes by having Gasol replace Joe Smith. Joakim Noah seems like a great heir to the Rebound throne. We may give up something on defense but Noah will make this up by getting garbage points and making FTs. I also think Noah is stronger mentally as Big Ben panics when he needs to shoot. This gives us the inside balance we are looking for without duplicating what Noah and TT offer. Joe Smith comes off the bench to give us a lift when we are struggling.
Gasol doesn't fit into Memphis style. Memphis is desperate for defensive help giving up 105.2 points per game, ESPN. Wallace would be a perfect fit.
I believe the money works. Wallace is making $15,500,000, Hoopshype. Wallace has two years left on his deal. Gasol is making $13,709,375, Hoopshype. Gasol has three years left on his deal. Memphis saves significant money because Gasol's salary includes an extra year and increases to $17 mil while Ben Wallace's salary decreases to 14 mil. A hurdle will be the Bulls willingness to take on the extra salary.
Do you think both teams benefit from this trade?
