Open Game Thread #4: Bulls vs. Los Angeles Clippers
[Thanks to JoeMoses for tonight's game preview. Noah's been (reportedly, from WSCR) activated for tonight, and may be taking some of Wallace's minutes. -Matt]
Win number 1? Not so fast, unless Skiles has found the cure already to our lackluster start. These are the generic Clippers (no Brand). Check out the enemy in a Blog-A-Bull look alike, at ClipsNation.
Imho, I think this game (7:30pm CST, ComcastSportsNet, AM1000) is going to be further trouble for the Bulls. Who has been the biggest dissapointment in the three games: Deng? No. Kirk? No. I say with that without a doubt it is Big Ben. Then along comes the possible breakout player of the year in this young season. Chris Kaman has started hot. He is averaging 18 ppg and 16.5 rpg along with 2 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal per game. I only hope that the fact that he did this against very bad defensive teams (Seattle and Golden State) means he will not continue at this torrid pace. I also hope that the reports that he is questionable for the game prove to have merit.
I worry about the Kaman-Wallace matchup because Wallace often has trouble with offensive minded centers who can move and have legit 7 foot size. This would be a much better matchup for the Noah-Gray combo as I don't think Kaman would hurt them as much.
To add doubt to a Bull victory, Quinton Ross shut down Ben Gordon last year (BG was a combined 7 for 25 in two games against the Clippers).
Another couple notes: I fear that the foul line issues will continue as Maggette and Cassell get the line often against anyone, including the Bulls. Further, a Cassell and Mobley backcourt is another big backcourt that often has given us problems. Mobley has started the season shooting 53% from the field, averaging 19 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Ruben Patterson seems to always play over his head against the Bulls and is fitting in nicely with the Clips at 12 ppg, 3 spg (lookout BG and Noch before you throw the ball), and 1.5 bpg while shooting 61% from the field. Finally, Tim Thomas, who usually has a rare bout of motivation when going against the Bulls is averaging 20 ppg on 53% from the 3 point line.
After the game, lets just hope our Bulls are singing "I was lost, but now I'm found".

Maggette has something like a .700 TS% against the Bulls, FYI.

Well, shooting is better tonight
Assists seem low, though (9 on 19 made baskets), and Kirk doesn't have a single assist right now.
Mobley can't keep hitting everything, right? I mean he's at 53.1% for the season before tonight, but 10 for 10? He shoots his average, that's 4 missed shots and the Bulls lead.

Bulls probably wouldn't even make the playoffs in
by miserabull on Nov 6, 2007 9:06 PM CST reply actions
that made so little sense
- Bulls have had slow starts in last 3 years, yet made the playoffs.
- West > East
- Bulls will be in the playoffs, conference finals, probably NBA finals.
great..
- Bulls have had slow starts because they were a young team with players still developing. They are not young any more and they are still losing to inferior teams.
- & 3. If the Bulls "will be in the conference finals, probably NBA finals" ...great!, but they wouldn't even make it to the playoffs if they were in the western conference. That's how mediocre they are.

The Bulls have no one who can score down the
It's a pattern that gets repeated ad naseum.
We can't win close games in the last three minutes because we don't score.
and remember, mavs were like what 1-5 last year?
And good ol' BG - throwing up a STUPID shot
geez...
Same old shit.
That is right
BG's wild drives are fucking annoying.
ok guys, now i throw optimism for tonights game
this, plus Pistons, plus circus = possible 1-3 win November...BUT
The Bulls started bad the last 3 years and made the playoffs. They will do it again. And plow when they get to the easier part of the schedule after the circus trip.
0-4 looks horrible, and lets face it. The Bulls arent good (they will be at the end of the year) and the Pistons are (now). It will be tough. Doable, but tough.
started bad the last 3 years and made the playoffs
Making the playoffs was the goal 3 years ago.
It's time to step up and they aren't gonna.
I even think the Bulls will end up with a worse record than last season.

some of these people
There is nothing wrong with
They're performing very poorly. They are simply repeating the same mistakes that plagued them last year, which is particularly distressing. Little ascertainable improvement outside of Tyrus.
"Vlad" and "Miserabull" are obviously just flamers, but those jokers aside, there is plenty to be disappointed with over the first four games.
plenty to be disappointed with
i only see the bucks and 76er losses
The Detroit game is always an emotional
apparently they already played the game.
BULLS ARE THE WORST TEAM IN THE NBA
Looking at the standings I can't really see any team that is worse. Maybe Sacramento, so congrats the Bulls are #2.
Realistically their best shot at a win comes against the Hawks, after Thanksgiving. They're going to be 0-10 and will probably lose that one too because the Hawks are a legitimate team.
by vlad001 on Nov 6, 2007 10:07 PM CST reply actions
gargle my sack
Celtics and Pistons seem insurmountable now, but they wont after they bulls start winning post-circus
It's time for the managment to plan for the future
They should probably trade the "core" for picks and marginal talent so they could shut it down for the year and build for the future. If they follow this plan they could get back up to average in 3 years and contend in 6.

Bulls will win the east.
How many field goals did the Bulls have in the
Umm....none?
I'm sorry you asked
Incidentally,
And overall they still shot horribly as a team (35.7%), but that includes BG's 4-18 (22.2%) and 0 for 4s from both Thabo and Joakim. The rest of the team shot 44.8%.
They lost
Did anyone see TT wearing a red wrist band earlier in the game? I thought I saw one and I wonder if that is why he didn't play much in the second half.

Skiles and his passive post game remarks
This "oh, it'll get better...work itself out" attitude is just maddening.
But I'm so sick of hearing all night from people like Dore, King, Kendall fish gill saying the "Bulls did play better"...
Who gives a shit?
They LOST. Period.
I am certain the Bulls will, in fact, get better.
They'll make the playoffs, etc. However, I was hoping this team would contend for a title. Thus far, there hasn't been much evidence that they will. The guards in particular have to play a lot better.
They made
Sue -
that's even less than previously.
That may be
I'm not giving up on them just yet.
I'm a Chicago fan and I'll always cheer.
But I'm also a realist.
The Bulls got beat solid by a team missing their main star.
There's an ugly pattern forming, and a passive approach ain't gonna fix it, and anyone who thinks it'll fix itself is kidding themself.
If that's what
The Bulls will be fine
Collectively, yes
I'm with Sue that it was a step in the right direction. Would be nice if it was a bigger step, but at this point I'll take it.

Guys...
I will say that Skiles not playing Tyrus
All any opposing team has to do is watch tape
Skiles pulls the same crap every game - WAY too predictable.
And the rest of the team follows suit and pulls THEIR same crap then too.
And here's a thought: This team was minus it's Best player in Brand...
Yet ANOTHER player the Bulls shoulda never let go.
Hopeless.
Its' time to admit that Thabo is a bust.

Dissapointed, but excited about Noah's inside
reminicent
when that starting lineup of Jamal Crawford, Scottie Pippen, Jalen Rose, Tyson Chandler, and Eddy Curry was going to bring the Bulls their first playoff trip since the Jordan-Pippen era?
But, then it seemed everybody, even the random bench guys (roger mason jr) just got worse and nobody on the team gave a crap if they won or lost?
this recent play has kind of reminded me of that
I do, however, think Skiles is a better coach than Cartright and can turn it around, leading the Bulls to the Finals where they were supposed to be going anyway.
Miami Heat of last year played when they felt like it with the attitude of 'we are better sos we will win', but then couldnt 'turn it on'. The Bulls are acting like that. From the Hardest working team in the league to a team that believes it will come to them.
They can get the edge back, i still think its only a matter of time.
The Bulls will be ok I think.

Skiles micromanaging the game with his rotations/punitive substitutions would be e) on that list, but I typically don't scream at him unless he plays Deng/Smith/Duhon/Noah/Thabo for over half the fourth quarter and allows the offense to be run away from Deng and Smith.
Oh, and Tim Thomas outhustling the Bulls for a critical late fourth quarter possession was a tiny dagger in my optimistic heart. If this team stops hustling, well, I might as well start comparing Roy Hibbert vs. Hasheem Thabeet mixtapes
I think the Bulls need to tweak something...

The Bulls did play better tonight
I was at the game tonight, and I really don't understand why Wallace is even playing. He's obviously hurt - at least he better be. He sure isn't helping the team by playing like this, so I don't know what the Bulls are gaining by having him out there. Why risk having his injury linger for half the season?
And speaking of punitive substitutions - Joakim Noah needs to be benched every time he launches a jump shot outside of the paint.
