Hinrich's extension

A blurb in the Daily Herald, mainly commenting on that British Deng story about the fictitious $79 million extension, states:

"The only problem is that's quite a bit more than the Bulls will be willing to pay when they're allowed to talk extension with Deng, which won't be until July.

That's when they'll get down to business with Kirk Hinrich, as well."

Is this another instance of a reporter not having a clue about what he's writing, or have the Bulls decided not to sign Hinrich to an extension before the season begins?

I almost posted this...
I wonder why Hinrick hasn't sign an extension yet.  Waiting until next summer (when he's a restricted FA) would only drive up the price.

Someone
had said that she had heard from a friend that Kirk's agent is not going to negotiate an extention until next year when he is a FA making Pax pay through the nose to keep Kirk. I think that was posted in here not long ago. Don't know if it's true or not.

I expected more from Hinrich
but maybe pro-athletes care about money more than me.

I don't know
if it's true or not but yeah I had hoped he would be signed by now too.

ummm...
Take a tip from Marlo Stanfield, "You want it to be one way, but it's the other way." Hinrich isn't urban-evil-incarnate; who wouldn't hold out for bigger money? Although I've heard Kirk Hinrich can see the future.
Will the Ginobili/Nocioni era ever be over?

Come on
What, did you expect him to take less money just for the privlege of playing for the Bulls?  Nobody does that when they're getting ready to sign their first big money contract - I sure as hell wouldn't.

Actually, he's taking a risk by not re-signing now.  If he were to tear up his knee this year, he'd be fucked.

by Big D on Sep 27, 2006 5:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes and No.
Look at the extensions LeBron, Wade, and Carmelo just signed.  I don't think we're expecting him to sign for less money, we're just expecting him to sign.  He's not going to get a max deal from the Bulls at this point.  If he really goes out and plays like Steve Nash, then I'm sure he'd be able to demand that.  But even then, he's still only a restricted FA after next season.  There's no reason to worry yet.

Maybe we all expected him to sign already because we've been brainwashed by his "Bulls starting PG dream" commercial.

Hmmm . . .
You know, he only wrote that that's where he wanted to be in 10 years.  They haven't said what he wrote about where he wanted to be in 15 years.

"In 15 years, I see myself in the midst of a max contract playing for the Miami Heat with a guy named Dwayne."

"dwayne"
that's great.  wondering if you intentionally mispelled dwyane because that's what a 14yo kirk would do.

which begs the question.  Did Dwyane's parents mispell the name on the birth ceritificate, or was that intentional?

Kirk
has said he wants to be a Bull his whole career. But since none of us know what or if anything is being done with his extention it's just speculation.

not sure about Deng and the rest of the young guys.

I don't
feel the same way about Ben that I do about Kirk, Deng and Nocioni. If any of those three left it would upset me. So if Ben left it wouldn't bother me.

I kinda agree
Kirk and Deng seem to be more well-rounded (does that have a hyphen?  I want to say it doesn't but I'll use it anyway) and have a higher ceiling when it comes to tools.  Gordon can score and has a higher FG%, 3PT%, and FT% for his career than Hinrich (though Hinrich had a higher FT% last year).  So it's obvious Gordon can shoot, he just only played 31MPG last year while Hinrich had 36.5.  Gordon had a great increase from his rookie year of 24.4, so it's likely he'll see more minutes this year.  If he can keep up shooting and play 35MPG, his PPG will go up to 19.1.  While that's a good number, he needs more than that to become the kind of all-star caliber player we'd like for him to be.

Hinrich and Deng have higher ceilings bc Hinrich and dish out assists, while Deng can get rebounds.  Both can score, while not as high as Gordon, Hinrich with his APG and ability to be the maestro for our beloved Bulls, gives him the edge to Gordon.  I'm also giving Deng the edge bc if he average 14.3 PPG and 6.6 RPG last year, while he did player a considerable more amount of minutes than his rookie year, his FG% did increase somewhat and is higher than both Gordon's and Hinrich's.  Deng didn't have a fair chance at improving like Gordon and Hinirch last off season bc he broke (or fractured, I don't remember which), and couldn't bulk up and gain muscle like he should have.  So with Deng being able to do just that this off season, it's likely his numbers will increase at a higher rate than last season, also raising his ceiling for when he gains more experience.

I won't go into Noc that much.  He's 3.5 years older than Gordon (better phrased as 15 years younger than Sue369) and will have a lower ceiling for development as a result.  Noc put up fucking gaudy numbers at the end of last season and playoffs, so the brother can play, but it's just a question of if he can do that every game (or at least a good number of all games) and for how much longer.  Also, Noc can rebound, which Gordon really can't.

So I'd much rather keep Hinrich or Deng than Gordon.  When it comes to Noc, I'm not 100% sure.  We'd need more points out of someone to replace Gordon (he did lead our team last season) and while they could come out of Ty and Sefolosha, that still leaves open the notion that they might not have as high FG%, 3P%, and FT% as Gordon.  Also, it's easily possible that with Deng's improvement (which is likely and expected for reasons I stated earlier) and Ty's presence, they could easily account for the loss of RPG and PPG if Noc were to leave.  Plus, they're a lot younger than Noc (and Sue).

So, if I had to trade away either Gordon or Noc (or let one walk bc Reinsdorf doesn't want to pay a lot of luxury tax even if it means keeping the core we all know and love together), I'd want it to be Noc.

Wow, the Adderall my doc just gave me sure is having an effect.  Hey Matt, are you impressed that I've been able to type long comments that are deep in substance and closely related to da Bulls?

I will be very
intersted to see if Deng has bulked up some and Sweetney has slimmed down some.

I just have a feeling that Thabo is going to be awesome. Some of it is from watching him play in the summer league.

Damn, you're really long winded today. Don't you have homework to do?

If Deng hasn't bulked up
I'll be incredibly disappointed.  Unless the team is hiding an injury, he has no reason to not put on muscle.

I'm sure Thabo will be good, but doesn't he want to mainly play at SG?  I believe that's what he said, so he wouldn't really cut into Deng's playing time unless we needed an emergency SF or move Deng to PF.  Also, didn't Ty say he wanted to be a SF?  Seems like the big picture might to be play Deng at SF until he gets bigger and move him to PF next year or so, then start Ty at SF (unless we are lucky enough to trade for KG, then Deng would be at SF if we still had him.....which I hope we would) meaning Ty would either come off the bench or be traded for KG.  I assume Thabo could possibly end up being the starting SG if we were to trade Gordon as part of a KG deal.  But I'd much rather just trade Noc instead of either Deng or Gordon, it would be easier to make up his loss than Deng's.

I just got put on ADD shit, maybe that's why I'm tying so much.  I don't have any homework really.  I have a French test tomorrow but I already speak French, so I'm only going to review for like 15 minutes to make sure my spelling and accents are okay bc losing points for having the wrong accent mark fucking sucks.  Also, it's obvious you must be old enough to be my mother, who else would ask such a question?
