Pax waiting on the Knicks before deciding on big man

I have been trying to figure out why Pax seems comfortable going into this season with only Ben Wallace, Luke S. and few power forwards sharing time at the center position. If Ben gets injured, then we are in trouble. It may be that Pax is waitng to see if the Knicks are going to be a lottery team this year. I think if the Knicks start out strong, then Pax will look to trade one of our key palyers at the guard or small forward position for a legitimate back up center. Maybe a young guy that could be groomed to take over for Ben in a few years. However, if the Knicks start out like last year, then Pax just may roll the dice and wait for the deep big man 2007 draft and trade what will almost certainly be our low draft pick fot the knicks lottery pick.

i dont think thats it
i think their is no big man available that Paxson wants/would fit our needs of being a good post-player. Paxson has tried to get post-players such as Kevin Garnett and Al Harrington but it did not work out (which im glad lol i want 2 keep Luol Deng). All the post-players that i think Paxson would have gotten in free agency r gone: Al Harrington and Nene. He said he had no interest n getting Wilcox so those were really the only 2. Paxson is still looking but i really dont think Paxson will be able to get a post-player he wants till around October.

i agree
there is no way the knicks will not be a lottery team, and there r no good big men out there......but i dont know why he didnt want wilcox....even though it was a contract year

remember Wilcox
surprised the league last year, and his numbers aren't anything I would call spectacular.

Per Game
19.9 MP 8.1 PTS 5.3 TRB .7 AST

Granted he came on to average something like 30 MP 14 PTS and 7 TRB for the Sonics, but there is no certainty that he is going to repeat that type of production.

i thought
i somewhat alluded...thats not the correct spelling but whatever...to that....but i would be willing to trade some end of bench guys for him fi we could get him on the cheap....that being said with the sonics owenership in turmoil and stuff i doubt they are goign to be making moves of staff.....location maybe

Pax has 'til Feb 07
There's still time for big trades -- Erik Dampier was traded to the Mavs in Aug.

Also, GMs are waiting to see who goes where and try to wait each other out.  They also will see who comes to camp in shape, who worked in the offseason and how is that young talent maturing before deciding what they need and can spare.

Finally, some teams will underachive in the Fall (GSW?) and think to blow up the team and start over, while others are close to being very good but missing a player that the Bulls can spare.

Trades will happen but goodness knows who and what.  Paxson seems to pick role players who are specalists that Coach Skiles can mix and match but rely on to produce off the bench.

Saer Sene
What about this rookie? I remember reading about how much the bulls liked this guy. I also remember how many draft experts were surprised that Seattle took him because they have a few young centers already. Maybe the bulls could work something out down the road if it looks like they need to start developing a big man for the future this year.  He is obviously not a low post scorer, but fits the Skiles defense and rebounding mold.

"I remember reading about how much the bulls liked this guy."

That really needs citation.

Sorry
It seemed to be common knowledge to me. I heard it talked about on sports radio as well as in  the above link but in the future I will include the links.

I thought
it was common knowledge Sene was drafted way too high. Everybody hears different things, and there is an enormous amount of re: this team likes this guy misinformation before the draft.

Future center
There are a lot of different opinions and rumors. However, the point of my original post was that if the Knicks have a good year then we may need to start thinking about our future at center now. Regardless of how good Ben Wallace is, he is not a long term solution. This guy Sene intrigues me. I really can't think of any other young big in the league who would fit the Bulls profile for an athletic, defensive specilist who rebounds.

Long term solution?
Is there such a thing as a  long term solution anymore?

Good point
That is an interesting point, but I hope the league always gives a team some advantage in signing their own players. It will be very interesting to see if Lebron stays in CLeveland for the next contract.
