Sweetney

Has anyone heard anything on what sweets does over the summer to keep in shape?  Any chance at all he'll come into this season at a slimmed doen 240-245?  I'd even take 250?  If you're involved in professional basketball, how hard is it to stay in shape??... I mean, if he's running up and down the court over and over again in games and in practices, doesn't that burn an incredible amount of calories?  Doesn't that mean you would have to be eating Krispy Kremes and Big Macs all day in order to actually gain weight?  Between sweets not losing weight, and Ty1 unable to put on a few pounds, you have to wonder who the Bull's nutritionist is, and what his take is on sweets and Ty1.  Anyone with an 'inside source'?... Kevin, maybe you could ask your 'guy'?...

Drew Gooden: Sign-and-Trade in Works?

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Sunday, July 16, 2006
Update: One rumored sign-and-trade involving Gooden has him going to Chicago for power forward Michael Sweetney and point guard Chris Duhon, the Lorain Morning Journal reports.

Recommendation: "It's a possibility we're interested in," agent Calvin Andrews told Chicago reporters. "We haven't talked too much about that happening. It's up to the Cavs. If something would come up with the Bulls, it would interest us, definitely." The talks between Gooden and the Cavs have stalled, making a sign-and-trade a possibility. Cleveland would seek a starting-quality power forward in any deal.

How much $$$
I don't want Gooden to take up a lot of cap space.  I don't like the idea of giving Duhon to a team in our division, he'll become a star the moment it happens.

duhon?
I understand that fear comes with dealing within the division, but Chris Duhon is what he is. The only way he'd be a 'star' in cleveland would be by handing the ball to lebron and pointing to him which basket to shoot at.

I don't mean all star
I just mean a really good player.  I'm not sure what their PG position looks like, but if Duhon got to start he'd be really good.  He's had great moments and would have a lot more if he were on certain other teams.  Duhon is really streaky as of now.  He's either on or off, he has no middle ground.  He'd dish out more assists and would get open bc people would double-team LeBron, so he'd have more open shots and more points.

Also, I'm glad I brought you out of your night of hiding even if it was just to call me a dumbass.

i agree
towards the beginning of the year last season, it seemed like the bulls lived and died by duhon's jump shot.  if he can get more consistent there, he should be a very good pg.

Rumor has it...
Michael Sweetney's summer workout program is a Richard Simmon's video wedged in the backseat of his SUV.

im a fan of duhon but
i dont see him becomin a star on any team. i think he will always a solid backup or maybe a low starting pg. dont get me wrong, i was excited when we draft chris in the second round cuz i thought it was a steal. i still consider it a steal. but like i said i just dont see duhon being a star.just a hard workin solid player that every team would want. i am also worried about the $ of drew gooden. but hinrich and gooden (both went to kansas) know each other pretty well.

sorry
this was a response to colossus.

I just think
Duhon would shine in the right environment.  He'd get more points and assists.

Gooden
I guess if this is also the Gooden rumor diary, I am wondering:

What do we know of Drew Gooden's offensive game?

(i.e. Does he have a post up game?  Does he settle for jumpers? etc. etc.)

by CRG on Jul 17, 2006 12:05 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

gooden's offensive game
i live in cleveland and i've been to several cavs games.  i think gooden has a great low-post game.  he also works hard around the basket, getting offensive rebounds and showing a great touch turning those boards into points.  he also has a nice jumpshot, out to roughly 18 feet.

he does struggle defensively, and it does seem to be due to a low basketball IQ.  but, like i said in another thread here, i think he'd be a great frontcourt partner for big ben, who excels at making up for others' defensive mistakes.

i really like this trade
this trade makes so much sense to me. Dont get me wrong i love sweets and Du but gettin gooden, a low post scoring guy (EXACTLY what we need) would just be phenomonal.

i have a question, what is the significance of a sign and trade?  i might just b an idiot so just let me know.

also
i dont think the money matches up so that could be bad for us bcuz we would hjave less money to sign our core guys in the years to come.

Gooden
From the outside, he seems to be a solid contributor on both ends of the floor, but I recall reading articles that criticize his ability to understand plays and defensive schemes.  Without having seen him play more than a handful of times, I would think that Skiles wouldn't want a player like that on his team... unless he needs someone new to yell at now that Ty1 is gone...

by leeac on Jul 17, 2006 12:13 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Skiles now has
JR Smith to yell at.

by Colossus on Jul 17, 2006 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

depends
i wouldnt mind the upgrade of sweets to gooden, but i have to question two things: money, and giving up duhon...without duhon we have no backup pg, and the money could hurt the re-signing of the core

by hongydraw on Jul 17, 2006 1:24 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

JR Smith
would be our back up PG.

by Colossus on Jul 17, 2006 1:36 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

no smith is gone
and i dont think he would be that good of a pg. i heard we signed aaron miles? he would be pretty much a replica of duhon but quicker and drives to the basketb more. and thabo can play pg, they were sayin he has shown he has the handles and quickness to play the 1 or 2

where did you see
we signed Miles? Do you have a link?

read carefully
it's just a rumor linked from a message board. I don't mind rumormongering as long as its in perspective regaring who it's being reported by.

And I don't mean by which 'source', but the difference between a message board and the mainstream media (who actually have to stand by their work).

Sweets
If he has a brain, he better get in shape this summer.  This is the last year of his contract, and if he gets in shape and has a good year, he can make a lot of money.  Hell, Chris Wilcox, a guy with one good half-season, is demanding 10 million a year.  But if Sweetney doesn't get his fat ass in shape, he may not last much longer in the league, because coaches don't have much tolerance for overweight players.  So everytime he goes to pick up a burger this summer, this is what should be flashing through his head:

NBA = millions of dollars a year
CBA = about 50,000 a year

Cba no longer exists
Thabo is our backup PG...he would be like a point forward.....does griffin handle the ball at all?

by milesgmsu on Jul 17, 2006 2:25 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

he can...
...shuffle across the timeline.  And he make decent decisions, usually.
