Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Do you want potential or play it safe?

Here are my thoughts on the draft:

Star-divide

I had been back and forth on who the Bulls should pick at #2.  I first liked Aldridge (low post scoring), then Roy (big guard), and finally TT (most potential) before the draft.  I wasn't real keen on TT initially because he was inconsistent.  He had two great games against Duke and Texas but disappeared against UCLA.  His immaturity showed there. Plus, he needs to add somewhere around 10-20 pounds of muscle to play the 4 spot.  Looking at it, Pax might be swinging for the fences.  It is hard to trade for a superstar w/o mortgaging your future.  This draft doesn't have a sure thing.  He is going on potential.

As for the Thabo, Pax liked him.  He was the best two guard available in our GM's opinion.  Now, I was thinking Ronnie Brewer.  I prefer taking players based on how they play in the games and not workout warriors.  I have never seen Thabo play so I wasn't sure.  But, Pax liked him more. Pax gave up some cash to get Thabo but they saved some by getting TT at #4.  But, why did they give a pick to Portland?  That didn't make sense. Is Khrappy (not meant as derogatory just wanted to type it) worth dropping 2 spots and a pick?  I am not sure.

Pax's drafts gave us mostly solid, safe picks.  Now, I think he is going for the home run, trying to get that All Star in TT.  Both the players probably won't make huge impacts in their first year.

Will it work out?  In Pax we trust.

That's an interesting angle,
but I doubt Paxson was giving up on Aldridge to trade for Khrappy. Tyrus Thomas seemed to be the Bulls most likely pick, filling a need for athleticism, and being a good defender. I think Khrappy was more of a bonus (as well as the money saved on Thomas being #4 instead of #2). Pax took advantage of Portland being way too nervous about missing out on Aldridge.

Yeah...
I agree with what you said.  I figured Khrappy was a bonus.  I guess I did not make that clear in my post.  It is a real good trade if you like Khrappy.  I guess the Bulls do.  You get the TT, who would have been drafted at #2, and him.    Hopefully, the Bulls are right and Khrappy makes a contribution.

also...
I read some place this morning that the 2nd round pick to Portland is protected... although I read too many damn articles this morning to remember where I read that... but I do remember it not saying what the range of protection was exactly. Probably won't hear about it till next June...
