NBA predraft athletic tests...

Interesting results from the NBA predraft camp athletic tests:

rank  no step vert. max. vert.  bench  lane agility   sprint
Aldridge    68       26.5             34             8      12.02        3.43
Brewer      2        35                41             19     11.32        3.14
Carney      5        32                38.5          10     10.57        3.06
Roy          30       34                40.5           6      11.13        3.27
Thomas    21       34                39.5           8      11.36        3.2

These are just a couple of the guys I picked from Chad Ford's analysis (http://tinyurl.com/m7rnz)... but clearly a couple things stand out... Brewer and Carney are impressive athletes and I'm starting to think some of the discussion a few of you have had about trading the 16th and Sweetney or Duhon to move up and get one of them (especially Brewer given his size) is warranted... but what team in the 8-12 range makes that trade?... Roy tested better athletically than I think many would have thought given his predraft website label as average... particularly his vertical is actually on par with Thomas which is surprising... actually I sort of thought Thomas would have had more impressive numbers given what everyone says about his athletic abilities... Aldridge pretty much did what was expected... not the best not the worst.

Obviously all of this needs to be taken with a grain of salt as people perform differently in game situations... but still I think this generally makes me question how "off the charts" Thomas is... and also just how "average" Roy is.

Max Vert?
What does that stand for how high his feet come off the ground.  You have to take in Ty2 size and long arms.  Naturally a shorter player is going to test better in all of the drills.

How it's done
I think they have him hit out sticks to see his standing reach, then have him jump and see how high he is then, and measure the difference.  It's how much higher are you now than before you jumped.

Now that I have been thinking
I think the bulls should pick Thomas.  Yes, I was once an Aldrige guy, but Thomas has so much more potential to excell in the NBA.  Ty2 has MJ and Lebron James athletic ability maybe even better, and hasnt even grown into his maximum height and weight.  One problem ive heard is that hes not a very talented shooter and tends to disapear in games, but all that can be corrected.  The key to having a succesful NBA draft is drafting the best player that is availible.  Thomas is the best player with the biggest upside.

Bench
I'm assuming that's how many reps they benched of the same weight? In that case Brewer is loads stronger than both Aldridge and Thomas. Would it be a total reach to take Brewer #2? And who was #1 overall on that list?

answers...
yeah that's how many reps on a 185 lb bar... just to put Brewer's number in perspective, only 5 guys recorded anything above a 20 and they were all bigs. The #1 ranked athlete was David Noel of UNC fame (he was the only returning starter from the 05 champions).

trading up
I can't see a top 10 pick team trading for just the #16 plus Sweets or Duhon.  NBAdraft.net has us taking Brewer at 16, but I doubt he lasts that long.  He certainly is NOT #2 pick worthy.  Apparently the guy cannot shoot the J consistently, but he is strong, good defender and can play 1-3.

After reading all these reports on bulls.com, I'm having a feeling that Pax/Skiles will take Thomas, based on athleticism, fire and desire/will to improve.  Skiles' stares into the soul reveals all...

brewer over thomas
Id pick brewer with the number two pick...or actually trade down a few spots and pick brewer and get something in return!

what's the deal with the 07 pick?
I know the Bulls have the right to swap picks with NY, but does that mean they have to choose now, or can they draft a player, use him for a year, then throw him NY's way as they choose another player (especially if it's the #1?)

In order to trade up, I would assume Pax would have to throw in next year's #1.  I know that sounds excessive, but that pick would probably be somewhere in the 20's.

Sweets, Duhon, the 16th pick and next year's #1...that might be enough to get up 8 or 9.

'the swap'
I don't think they can transfer the right to swap picks with NY. So they need to keep their own pick until the '07 draft in order to swap with the Knicks. And I do believe it can be done right before the draft, they don't have to draft for eachother and then trade the players.

u confused?
From kirk's post, it seems like there may be some confusion.  The deal is that the Bulls have the right to swap next year's 1st rounder with the Knick's next year's 1st rounder.  That decision will be made next year.  It has no impact on this year's draft.

Isiah...what an idiot
Thanks for the info.

I'll scratch my original thought, throwing that pick into a deal in order to jump up 6 or 8 slots probably doesn't make sense.
