Ford's articles on Bargnani & Colangelo

anyone else read Chad Ford's posts on Raps GM & Bargnani:

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=ford_chad#20060615
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2006/insider/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&id=2484931

There's actually a bit more substance there to his take on Bargnani than most of the other stuff online... and specifically his game and pre-draft experience in comparison to Skita's a few years back... as well as his recent play in game 1 of the Euroleague finals. Also just the time investment he indicates Colangelo is (and has) personally putting into scouting Bargnani makes it seem like the #1 is Bargnani's to loose. It just seems like the Raps are spending much more time on Bargnani than any of the others... Who knows though...

Interesting aside... Ford notes that Bargnani actually got pushed around in the paint by none other than... get ready for this... Dalibor Bagaric. Ford also insinuates that Bargnani way outplayed him in all other aspects... but still... made me chuckle.

He was a stiff, but damned if he wasn't a big dude.

Raptors
www.raptorblog.com has the idea that looking all other prospects is just a smokescreen if BC decides to try and trade for another pick in the draft.  If Toronto doesn't pick Bargnani I'll be really surprised.  I kind of want the Bulls to take him if he's at #2 just bc I think he's going to be a huge star.

dunking on Dali
This was funny, though:
One minute into the game, Bargnani gets it rolling. After he misses a shot on a lob and Bologna rebounds, Benetton's point guard Drew Nicholas steals the ball back and fires a pass to Bargnani in the paint. He takes one dribble, elevates and dunks it over former Bulls center Dalibor Bagaric.

Things aren't going much better for Dalibor in Italy than they did here, evidently.

Doesn't that pic of Ford
make him look like a child molester?  it's Len Pasqerellie-level creepy.  Maybe I'm just miffed b/c I haven't doled out money to be able to read articles like that.

bargnani
hi,i'm from udine(italy).
this year i saw bargnani playing live two times and in tv something like 30 matches. i think the bulls must draft him cause he is the perfect player the bulls need to complete their game:he can shoot the three but he is also a big stopper, a good bouncer(he is more than 7 feet).but "il mago" is not like dirk, rarely create a shot by himself but he is fantastic to catch and shoot(that i thik is the point of strenght of bulls).
and he is really a very good athlete.he has a fantastic first step but he is not too good to pass the ball. i personaly consider him NOW more like a okur more and more fast, but the similarities with dirk are really impressive!! for any question about bargnani i'm here.

hello to italy
That's great you've watched Bargnani play so many times because here in the US we don't get euroleague games unless you have satellite I believe.

It's very interesting that Bargnani doesn't create his own shot yet.  Do you think he can learn how to create better?

Does he ever play in the post?  Any inside moves?

What do you think of his mentality?  Is he aggressive on the court?  Does he want to get better or does he coast on his natural skills?  Can he dominate a game?

I hope those aren't too many questions, but your observations/comments would be much appreciated!

bargnani
he doesn't create shot by himself also because of the type of play here in europe:is very difficult to see a "call" for an isolation;you can see more pick and roll than in nba and a lot of three shots.however bargnani has an incredible % on shots with 2 or 3 second left on the clock. He is lethal because if you try to mark him when he is behind the line he always beat you with his incredible first step and go for a dunk(da brat video...).however bargnani is the kind of player that improve game after game and i think  is a kind of silent leader.he is not bad at rembound and he is the best bloker of the league(yesterday, game 2 of the final he was named mvp of the match with 17 points,7 rembuonds and 6!!! blocks (two on dalibor that is not ewing but is big big)in 30 minutes.).you can see him play post rarerely cause he play as 4.sometimes he go in post position but opponents make foul before he catch the ball.I don't think he has,at the moment,a great post game...he has 90% on ft and he go a lot of times from the line.his mentality is certain winninng. I think he is not so aggressive on the court but also duncan...you all are frghtend that AB can be the next skita.i tell you he is a real basketball player(i can't say if he is going to be a superstar or not).he is not skita, milicic or pavel poldkozki??(the big one of dallas).these players NEVER play in euroleague:nba scouts saw that they were young with a good body, look a couple of training sessions and fall in love with them;no one knew them in europe before they arrived in nba!!!!.bargnani is a greate player that had played at the higest level in europe for the last 3 years(and he is only 20 years).and DON'T tell me that play against same aged players like you do in ncaa is the same thing.so..........
TAKE bargnani with the second pick(expecially if the raptors take alderige or morrison for portland or atlanta) tabo sefolosha with the 16 pick(he is a very good player) and a center with a trade or from the free agents.GO BULLS GO

and...
i think that you can see bargnani on nba tv(benetton-climamio bologna is the italin league final, not the euroleague final like FORD said!!).
in the international match of the week.plase ,lokk the three shot with two second on the clock...

Right on
Thank you for the international perspective.  I would be very happy with a Bargnani/Sefolosha draft, from what you say and what I've read.

I have real reservations about TT and Aldridge.  I don't like the idea of going with Roy.  Although I like him as a player, I'm not sure how high is ceiling is and we really need more than a solid role player with one of these 2 picks.

Is Roy going to be THAT much better than Sefolosha or Brewer?  Probably not.  But Bargnani might be light years better than a 16th pick big.

some questions...
i agree with you.
However in italy newspapers said that nba tv bought tv rights of italian finals.did nobody saw game 1 or game 2? if you see these games i think you can well understand what are bargnani's positives and negatives.
a lot of people come to see bargnani live.when benetton treviso came here in udine(my teame call "snaidero udine" and was the team for charles smith, sasha vujacic, john wallace, john lucas...)i was sitting near 2 bobcats scout.larry BIRD saw from live the game of the "da brat" highlights;also ainge, colangelo sam mitchell and kevin mcneal come in italy for AB.but bulls?? I never heard about bull's scouts that came here? do you think bulls are really interest on bargnani?
i can tell you that sefolosha is better than roy.lakers saw him a million of times live, vlade divac said to italian tv that he remember to him the first kobe.with jr bremer and riky minard he bring his little team to the playoffs.he is ready for nba.
TT is very intense but you can't be a PF in the nba if you are only 6'8 with shoes and he is 0 in offence(only dunks, but against 19 years old guys).Alderige has soft hands but he is a a "breadstick" and can't difend on nba centers(at the moment).marcus williams and rudy gay are,in my opinion, now ready for nba but bulls have a lot of guys in their position.

bargnani / sefolosha
I do remember Pax during the season making trips to Europe, but nobody quite knew where he was going and who he was trying to scout.

I have no idea if the Bulls have interest in Bargnani, but if they do, I would expect them to hide that interest since Toronto seems really interested in Bargnani and they control the draft.

This article from draftexpress is interesting:

http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1356

I forgot NBATV shows eurobasketball.  I need to pick up that option.

Your observations of Bargnani and Sefolosha are quite a luxury for us who are in the States.  Draftexpress has the Bulls taking Sefolosha at #16.
