Elton! Why are you doing this to me?

I thought I was over him.  Nope.

After watching him average 31 ppg, 10 reb, 4 ast, 3 blcks, on 59 FREAKING PERCENT shooting - it hit me.  Seriously, I'm not trying to be a downer b/c it's not my thing.  But man, IF ONLY????

For the past few years when the Clippers were still terrible and Tyson's ceiling wasn't so obvious, I didn't see it as such a bad move.  My usual response was "His teams don't win anything!  Why pay top dollar for that?"  Watching him this year though is like thinking you're over an old girlfriend only to see her a couple months later and it just hits you.  Damn.

You know, I went back to look at the "2001 NBA Draft Grades" that the national media put out and they were all overwhelmingly positive about the move.  I remember feeling the same way as  back then  every high school big man was either the next Jermaine O'Neal or KG.  Well, here we are approaching the 5 year anniversary of "JerryGate" and we're still looking for his replacement.

So, let hope we get a little love from the ping pong balls tonight and Pax gets what he needs to either draft or trade for our new big man.    Just writing this all down makes me feel like I'm over Elton and ready to move on...until I see him next year that is.

how were the scouts so wrong?
from the page you linked to about tyson:
"Can shoot the ball well"
"Exceptional... touch"
"Can knock down shots all the way out to college 3."

so the question is... do people just write this stuff without actually watching the prospects play?  or did tyson actually have an offensive game that magically disappeared in the nba?

lol
they also rate his jump shot as being a better skill than his rebounding.

More "expert" opinions
ESPN's draft report card is even funnier.  Some of my favorite quotes are:
(Chandler)...can block shots and take his game outside. He'll play small forward while Marcus Fizer is the starter at the four-spot.

and

Curry...should be a rebounding machine right away

well
His first 2 ish years he did shoot and his shot was not bad at all. Last year and the year before he was a good free throw shooter. His shot looked nice. So I would guess they just never developed him offensively. I mean he never shoots. I know he can be a scorer. They really need to work with him more and try to get him the ball. Teach him not to adjust his shot. He needs 3 decents options. 1 outside jump shot. 2. Hook shot. 3. Some kinda lowpost move. If Shaq can do it why can't Chandler.

Tyson
JoeJoe, you're right on.  I think it's a total lack of confidence in his shot (trust me, I know the feeling and can spot it in others!).  I also think that Tyson's inactivity last summer put his game into a serious regression.  I hope and expect him to bounce back in a big way.

Regarding free throws, he had improved each year he was in the league (60%, 61%, 66.9%, 67.3%) up until last year's brick fest (50.3%).  Again, let's hope he gets into a nice routine this summer that involves a 100-200 FTs a day.

Tyson
Having some of the worst hands I've seen doesn't help his offensive game.  It's hard to shoot the ball when it bounces off your head.
