Trib reports Bulls trying to get Camby

[From the Diaries. I have a mega-post waiting in the bullpen, which I'll post in the morning. Till then we can go back to the trade machine. It's past midnight on the East coast and they still haven't lifted the 12/15 trade restrictions for recently signed Free Agents. What the hell, ESPN.com?!? -Matt]

Tonight the Trib is reporting that the Bulls offered PJ Brown to Denver for Marcus Camby as part of a 3 way Philly-Denver-Chicago Iverson deal.  Now, does KJ Johnson expain the rest of the deal?  No.  But I'll try. :)  One possible deal would be this.   Or, Denver could sweeten the pot a little for Philly with this. I'd assume that some draft picks would be included as well.

Personally, I think Camby's awesome...for 60 games a year.  The length of his remaining contract matches Ben Wallace's deal as he's signed through the 2009/10 season and has $23.6 million still coming to him.  Camby's only played more than 66 games ONCE in his ten year career.  Seeing as he hasn't missed a game yet this year, his annual injury is probably right around the corner.

*Update* - Since I first posted this diary, the story was pulled off the Trib's website. Coincidentally, David Aldridge just reported a similar potential trade during the Spurs-Hornets game on TNT. Even though the Trib pulled their story, You can still Google "Bulls Camby" and see part of the remaining article "Bulls Fish for Camby" [The original link is back up. -Matt]

His salary isn't that bad assuming he stays healthy.

It doesn't matter to me
if you made it up or not because either way I'm not putting any water in the trade notion until it actually happens.

Seems like Philly would want more than just that, like a young guard that can shoot.

That makes sense
Philly should get a little more.  You know, the same deal I put together also works with JR Smith also going to Philly.

The more I look at this new deal, the more I like it for each team.

I like it because
it won't stop us from keeping our core guys around for a long time and I'll like it even more if we get to keep our 2007 pick.

David Aldrige just reported the same thing on TNT
Although your link's broke on the trib website, and I can't seem to locate it.

Figures they'd go for more defense, haha.

Makes you wonder about something else: Maybe Brown's injury has him missing games to preserve trade value?

I mentioned that last night
because Lard Ass didn't play and Ty wasn't in until the final minute.

Well.....
But the sources said that King was not very interested in 37-year-old P.J. Brown, despite his expiring contract ($8 million this season). Brown is not playing much at all in Chicago and would welcome a trade.

Camby
then could be packaged with Gordon, Noce, a pick and whoever else to balance out the $$ for GARNETT!!!

Or did I put an extra rock in my freebase

I'm down,
He's definatley an upgrade over PJ, and we wouldn't lose much at all. I like the fact is that Camby can play, and still provide gritty defense.

However, do you think this would hurt Deng/Chapu's production if there are less minutes to go around since Chapu might not start. I think that may be a problem, but what can you do.

If Camby started at PF
I imagine he wouldn't be out there very long because he'd have to sub for Wallace and Noc would probably go in early on so Camby can rest before switching to center.

Take the minutes from Sweets!
Sweets is averaging just over 8 minutes a game. Skiles handing those over to Noce would be just fine in my book.

by Jobu on Dec 14, 2006 10:46 PM CST up reply actions

it doesn't have to limit Noc too much
Noc gets all the mins when one of them are out at PF and time at SF when Deng is out

what it means is no Malik / Krappy / Sweets time and probably less Ty2 for now

Hinrich/Thabo
Duhon/Gordon
Deng/Noc
Wallace/Noc
Camby/Wallace

If they can get Brown for Camby seems like a steal as far as just those 2 players production IF IF Camby is healthy for playoffs

by NY Chicago Fan on Dec 14, 2006 10:52 PM CST up reply actions

keep in mind
If you give Noc's minutes to a better player, then no worries.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 14, 2006 11:03 PM CST up reply actions

agree
Noc is out of position at PF.  He provides good offense but still undersized and not long or leaper.

Wallace and Camby would be awesome rebounding duo and game changing D at rim.

by NY Chicago Fan on Dec 14, 2006 11:16 PM CST up reply actions

Sorry I meant
However, Why would Denver do that? They already lost Nene and Kenyon. Wouldn't they be really thin up front if they did that. PJ is deacent, but he can't play big minutes.

by SouthSideIrish @ Blog a Bull on Dec 14, 2006 10:46 PM CST reply actions

yeah
I'm not sure why Denver does it?  Don't they run O through Carmello and need Camby to play D in the big West

by NY Chicago Fan on Dec 14, 2006 10:54 PM CST up reply actions

They didn't lose Nene
He missed 12 games this year with a bruised right knee.  His LEFT knee was the one that had problems last year.  He's played about 15 minutes in each of their last 4 games.

by Jobu on Dec 14, 2006 11:09 PM CST up reply actions

that's why I call shenannigans
I'd imagine for Denver that Camby is untouchable. He's their most valuable player outside of Carmelo and their best defender on a team with few of them.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 15, 2006 10:44 AM CST up reply actions

remember
George Karl has a history of trading good players for George Karl's good players. How untouchable was Ray Allen?

Note: I personally doubt this trade is anything more than someone trying to raise the A.I. stakes, but Karl is still wacko.

camby
For anyone who misses chandler, Camby is the solution.  Chandler is/was like a poor man's camby.  Camby is kind of old though (32) and isnt much of an offensive threat. I dont know how wallace and camby would work out together on offense.

by Jobu on Dec 14, 2006 11:39 PM CST reply actions

Am I...
the only one who thinks this trade is just plain dumb? Sure, Camby's an upgrade to PJ Brown - but at this point, so is a tree stump. Although the salaries are comparable, Camby has another four years left on his deal. Doesn't this just mean that the Bulls would be shackled to not one, but TWO four-year deals for big men who will be in their late 30s when their contracts finally expire?

This also rules out the future use of PJ Brown as an expiring contract in a possible blockbuster deal. As I see it, this deal would merely handcuff future salary cap and trade flexibility for a decent (but unspectacular) big man.

Someone, please set me straight.

soooo
what the hell? Is this true or not?

Good Work Jobu
Although I'm not sure how I feel about your one-upsmanship regarding spamming blogabull all day. The Trib pulling the article doesn't speak highly of its accuracy as Bulls' brass would probably notify them about misinformation before Aldridge, national outlets, etc. (I know nothing about journalism or the media, but that certainly sounds like a good explanation.)

Brown for Camby is a big "I guess" as far as my own personal stamp of approval goes. Has anyone mentioned he's hurt like all the time yet?

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Dec 15, 2006 12:44 AM CST reply actions

I spoke too soon
The Trib put the article back up. The original link works fine.

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Dec 15, 2006 1:18 AM CST up reply actions

Don't Mind
I wouldn't mind this trade, really.  Sure, Camby will play, like, two games for us, but it will still be more production than we could expect from PJ.  Of course, I hated the Tyson to Charlotte trade to begin with (which shows you how highly I regarded PJ).
Camby is certainly a Skiles-type defender and a nice piece to complement Ben.  If the deal doesn't happen though, I won't be disappointed that we lost out on a 32 YO undersized center with no offensive potential and more flashes of brilliance in his career than health.  Look, I've already talked myself out of it!  All in one post.
Sweet.

by CookDing on Dec 15, 2006 8:21 AM CST reply actions

these discussions get me stoked . . . .
even though I'm glad when they never happen.  I won't miss the former UMass player whose team has an asterisk next to its only final four appearance----for camby's acceptance of consideration in return for playing for Calipari.

Let's just trade P.J. Brown for a gaggle of mini-Ditkas and be done with it.

I'm sick of my name, damn gwkd.

by GWKD on Dec 15, 2006 10:16 AM CST up reply actions

Brown & Camby
First off, I agree Brown is being held out because of a possible deal is being talked about.  The Bulls will attempt a deal, and if not they just gave a veteran with some miles on him a nice rest.

One thing that I cannot believe is that nobody has brought up the fact that if we still had JR on our team we would hold a lot more chips right now.  Oh well, it is in the past.

With all the trade talk, it is crazy looking around the league and seeing all the bad contracts.

by Jesse07 on Dec 15, 2006 8:58 AM CST reply actions

Smith
he wouldn't be as much of a chip b/c he wouldn't be getting minutes.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 15, 2006 9:08 AM CST up reply actions

I agree
Doesn't Denver owe us for for the freebee that we gave them (JR)?

Denver only does this deal if it's part of a 3-way for AI.  Does the trade work if the Bulls send Krapaya (not going to look up the spelling)?  He'd get minutes on a Camby-less Denver team.

by Moses Taylor on Dec 15, 2006 10:35 PM CST up reply actions

I just want the trade to happen
Any trade with AI, that is, since I'm so sick of the trade rumors.

me too
Thabo....the accent is sweet!!

by sue369 on Dec 15, 2006 10:31 AM CST up reply actions

I really just want
Iverson to be traded so we can stop having all these rumors and possibilities get our hopes up that we'll be able to nab something pretty in a three-team deal.

Of course, once Iverson is dealt it'll start all the KG to the Bulls rumors again.
