for all you Krappy fans

According to this plus / minus rating system on NBA.com, Khryapa was best player yesterday. Guess its probably not too accurate of a system for 40 pt blowouts.  Although with the Bulls depth hopefully their 2nd unit will outscore other teams 2nd units quite a bit and give Chicago a real advantage.  With Bulls defense it will be tough for opponents to score so every little bit of offense will be major.

I'm not
a Krappy fan, but I am a Viktor Khraypa fan-until someone comes up with a suitable name we can agree on.

suitable enough
As long as we know he's good..it's sweet irony. Krap-man!

Kree-YAH-pah
I assume many of you saw the Bulls telecast last night when they put up a graphic of how to pronounce Khryapa's name properly (the above is not it exactly but is more or less it).  It was completely different from the way it was phoenetically spelled out in a recent article that was posted here (it was Ha-RAP-ah or something to that effect in the article -- sorry no link).

So how the hell do you pronounce the guy's name?
Kree-yah-pa, Ha-rap-ah, yah-pa-pa, chhhh-oompa, ha-sha-sta?

Go Bulls!

have to go with
ESPN on this one. They are the worldwide leader in name pronunciation (Veek-tor Ha-RAP-pa), although not always correct. Marco Scutaro anybody? It's still a better source than Comcast.

from the khrap-man's mouth
They had a thing in preseason where they simply asked Khryapa and Marty Vicious how to say their names....and Khryapa did pronounce it KREE-Ya-PA (not so good with my phonetic spellings...but I'm certain he pronounced the 'k')

Anyway...they then said that pronouncing the 'k' is the 'english' pronounciation, the 'ha-rah-pa' is the Russian. Or something.

sports casters pronunciations!
I'd never take a sports writer or sports casters word on how to pronounce anything.  Nearly all of the network football announcers can't say Green Bay properly (it's two words - emphasis same on both not Greenbay with emphasis on Green!!!!).

I know someone who's taking Russian.  I'll ask him how it's pronounced.

Except that...
Khryapa probably wants it pronounced a certain way.

Like someone said, it's pronounced differently in both countries.

He probably says to say, "Kree YA puh" just cuz he 'knows' (or someone does) that that is how most Americans will say it anyway. Especially in his new home of the Dear Midwest.

That's my take.

by tyger1147 on Nov 2, 2006 11:14 PM CST up reply actions

You are
correct that he did tell announcers to pronounce it that way. It was one of the women from CSN who did an interview with him and that is the American way to pronounce it.
Go Hawkeyes.....Beat Northwestern!!!

ewww
I feel dirty just thinking about the 'American' way to pronounce names. It seems like a modern day Ellis Island processing station, and an excuse for ignorance. Stand up for yourselves, Predrag and Radoslav!

Also, I just looked up Khryapa and Wikipedia, and he has a nickname - "Tayka"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Khryapa

Of course that could mean cocksucker in Ukraine, so use some tact next time Veek-tor is signing t's at the local big box store.
