Hinrich signs contract extension

[From the Diaries. Nobody was truly worried here, right? This looks like a very fair deal from the Bulls end. -Matt]

Hey -- just saw this in the Trib:

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/cs-061031bullshinrich,1,1971030.stor y?coll=cs-bulls-headlines

With the deadline for the negotiating window expiring at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Hinrich decided to sign the five-year deal rather than become a restricted free agent next off-season.

League sources said the deal is worth $47.5 million and starts in the 2007-08 season at roughly $7.8 million. The deal will pay Hinrich approximately $11.42 million during its final season in 2011-2012."

Nice -- one less thing to worry about.

One less issue
Damn boys, you beat me to it, but I know we're all happy to take this weight off our backs.  I figured he would get more money, especially considering the deals of Kaman and TJ Ford, but then as Kirk says, he doesn't piss away his money like many other guys in the league are prone to do.  Kirk is here for another 6 years (including this year) and Pax can now focused on resigning the other guys or fleecing some other teams of talent in some lopsided trades.  I'll raise my glass to that.

Related story
Toronto is paying nearly as much for TJ Ford:
According to league and team sources, Ford will get a deal similar to the extension Bosh signed this summer: three years with an option on a fourth that kicks in starting with the 2007-08 season. Ford will earn between $8 million and $9 million (all figures U.S.) annually, putting him among the top third of NBA point guards in salary.

I'd rather have Ridnour
at his price than TJ Ford at that price. Ridnour isn't that much worse than Ford defnsively and has been a superior offensive player in the NBA.

Glad to have Kirk for the foreseeable future,
and this does sound like a great start toward getting the other guys all signed at reasonable deals.  I'm glad Kirk decided to take it, even if I do still think he's worth way more than a couple of those other guys with bigger contracts.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is the best news. I knew he wanted to stay a Bull and I'm glad he signed. Since he recently got engaged this makes one less thing to have to worry about in the next year.

Nice to have one good thing happen today
My day has been below par except for this.

I'm surprised Hinrich got less than $10m per year, seems like he's worth at least that.

Stop it, Matt
I am crying that was so friggin' funny.

I guess Kirk has had a nice week, getting engaged and now getting signed. Then again, getting engaged may not be that great a thing since whomever she is can now get half.

Do you really smach your head against the monitor?

No, nothing happened today (yet), it's just been boring.

Also, you made the mistake of thinking that old lady sue actually gives a damn.

Fav part
Hinrich, who favors jeans over jewelry anyway, began recognizing the benefits of security over his preferred salary figure.

Sounds like my kind of athlete.
