Nice to see he stole
Chandler's workout regime from last year.

Not a big deal
A photo from media day doesn't show if M. Sweet can or can't be effective for more than 15-20 minutes. He could have spent the offseason in Gilbert Arena's high altitude bubble for all we know. What team in the East wouldn't want some extra girth off the bench (and Sweetney has proven he's more effective than other horizontally gifted athletes like Robert Traylor and Jahidi White) to matchup with Shaq?
Will the Ginobili/Nocioni era ever be over?

Yes, it is a big deal
We know he can play decently off the bench even in terrible shape, but he's good enough to start if he loses some weight.  He's got the potential to be the low-post scorer we desperately need, but he can't do it if he's sucking wind after a few minutes on the court.

No, it's not....
"Not a big deal" meaning don't judge Sweetney by one photo and press the panic button, because it isn't  a big deal. Sweetney is probably in better shape, the guy is just huge, and that's almost impossible to change. I'll be bold and repeat myself, Sweetney's size is one of the reasons why he is effective.

Disagree...
He still has a gut visible right underneath 50 on his jersey. I was hoping he would have a Curry transformation this summer like Eddy did before his last year with the Bulls.

Bulls.com says he weighs 270
and the roster has all the invitees that will totally be rejected, so it seems new.

No Way
...does Sweetney weigh 270. Probably 300-325.

I might be alone in still having hopes for Sweetney. Especially as a backup Power Forward, instead of as a Double-Wide-Double-Short Center.

Last year he had to play Center just because we didn't have anyone else who could.  Supposedly he's actually even less than 6'8".

If he could just get his confidence back (and maybe his waistline under control) he could be really good.

I don't think he'll get the chance to play this year-with all the new big men the Bulls brought in, and Sweets being at the top of Scott Skile's sh!t list.

Hate to break it to you
But no NBA player is as tall as their listed height.

Who would be our #2 center?
Do you think Marty Vicious or Luke would do a better job?

no2 center
will probably be pj brown... my guess is he'll play primarily pf, but will also be the primary backup at center... remember, he did man the middle for the hornets last year thanks to a: the maglore trade and b: david west breaking out...

by peterbredenberg on Oct 5, 2006 10:16 AM CDT up reply actions

That could work but....
I thought he was going to start at PF.  If we wanted him to start at PF, we'd have to sub him early to rest so that he could go in for Big Ben and be effective enough.

That could work actually.  It seems like Noc will primarily be at PF, so having him come in after a few a little bit and Brown sitting would energize the offense.  Then when Wallace has to sit we could sub him with a guy that's a better player than Sweetney or Marty Vicious.

Although, if Brown comes out smoking hot it leaves us with the decision to either bench him anyway or let him play, then sub him with Noc and Wallace with Sweetney (since I greatly doubt Marty and Luke are ready to be the #2 C) when the time comes.

Next Wednesday can't come soon enough, I'm so anxious to see any depth chart by Skiles.

You have actually seen an NBA basketball game before?

I thought Brown playing alot of center
would be obvious.  If Deng and Nocioni both play at least 30 min/game then they overlap into minutes at the 4.  Brown will probably play a 1/3 to 1/2 his minutes at the 5, depending on how Thomas and Khryapa perform.  The combination of Brown and Malik Allen backup Wallace at the 5.  I don't see how Sweetney sees the floor, other than Skiles occasionally throwing him out to see if he has anything.  Sweets and Marty seem like the favorites to be on the inactive list.
